Backyard critters, great and small
Re: Backyard critters, great and small
She's relatively acclimatised to us being around and usually don't scarper immediately - (we grow things they like to browse on; native violets, wombat berry, cousin It/casuarina etc - that's a wombat berry behind her + we don't have a dog to harass them).

I love swamp wallabies. They're so sweet and cute.
First they came for the 'illegal' immigrants...and i did not speak out because i was not an illegal immigrant.

A big crowd at my cafe this evening. The rainbow lorikeets are feisty, the much larger king parrots are subservient to them. I love them both, but the amazing colours of the lorikeets make them a favourite.

Then I had a return visit from a satin bowerbird. I wasn't quick enough to photograph him last time. He seems to like my compost bin.

Got a nice close up of an Aussie Ibis this morning. They don't raid bins in Victoria, or at least it's very rare. Not their culture here. They just hang out anywhere near water. I think they have a real beauty.

I think this is a, possibly immature, White-browed Scrubwren (Sericornis frontalis).
It was sitting on a road in a forested area, and it didn't move as I approached. I was able to pick it up without much of a struggle, so that I could move it off the road (although it's not a heavily trafficked road).
I placed it on a low branch on a tree beside the road, and it sat there without attempting to fly away. I suspect it might have been a bit dazed. It seemed able to move its legs and wings OK.
The location was along Knights Hill Road, on the edge of the Illawarra Escarpment near Wollongong NSW.
