I'm now looking at last night's archived stuff, to see what set Dog off a few times, and 0133's street-facing camera yields a huge shadow cast under the streetlight, crossing the pool of light below, plus a tantalising glimpse of leg or wingtip at the top margin of view.

The screenshot's nothing much to show, but it may be a Powerful Owl. We've got a few nest trees in the vicinity, and I often see larger critters which are almost certainly their leftovers.

Here's one I prepared earlier...

I only just noted this great photo. It might be a barn owl? Either that or a baby powerful owl? It's just that it looks roughly the same size as the kookaburra but a full grown powerful owl is over four times the weight of a kookaburra. Their song is pretty distinctive though. Either way, it's great to have owls about.

First they came for the 'illegal' immigrants...and i did not speak out because i was not an illegal immigrant.
Then they came for...

Seeing we're doing owls, and because I have to go through the whole picture archive since 2016 for some legal stuff, here's a Southern Boobook from Jan 1027.

Another nature twofer - different species of frog, both spotted close to home on the same night (31 Mar 2017).

The weather must have reached some crucial point.

We've just had the first ten-minute barrage of cicada noise.

Then they all went quiet at once, and only one or two are calling now.
