Brop loves my bitey plants.
I don't know if he's taking many bees when they come to drink.

Stripe's Joey ventures out! Photo and Attenborough-esque video. Well, maybe not that good, but it was pretty special by my standards.

Today was day of the reptile. I was blown away by the sheer elegance and beauty of the two goannas I saw. They both scurried up tree trunks as I approached. I also saw a big beautiful black snake, the first since I moved here. It saw me first and slithered away. This is a failure on my part, I need to watch out for them so I can get a photo and also avoid being bitten.

An uncooperative bastard, but as is their wont.

Disclaimer: None of the pics in this post are mine.
Our
Canna edulis (Qld Arrowroot) plants all seem to grown from a couple of seeds brought down by the 2011 flood.

I haven't been lucky enough to be ready with a camera at the right time, but there's a lot of
Brown Honeyeater

hover-and-feed activity going on of late.
If I had more upright time, I'd probably get some happy-snaps.

I was quite pleased with this photo of a 'roo I have nicknamed "Snow". She has a quite mature joey, who was just out of frame when I took this photo. I was reading up about kangaroo reproduction. Apparently females are pregnant a lot of the time compared to other species. If there's a drought they can slow down the progress of the pregnancy and have a longer gestation. Sometimes they have a big joey and a little worm-sized joey in the pouch at the same time. They also sterilise their pouches, cat style, with a good licking to make way for a new bub.

Not quite my backyard - it is the Moruya River next to the parklands where the weekly markets are held. Seals are also often seen in Narooma too, especially where they get fish shared by humans. This one really seemed to be enjoying the attention, although there were no food rewards.

I'm de-trashing my photo archive, and some odd stuff turns up.

Southern Boobook owls have been active very close to the house for the last couple of days.
Can't see 'em, but the mopoke noises have been a joy.
Here's some I prepared a few years ago.
