pipbarber wrote: Tue Aug 13, 2024 7:39 am I'm definitely starting to feel confident Harris will win. My nervous trepidation levels have pleasantly diminished over the last two weeks. However, this article brings me back to the other concern, Trump losing.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/art ... ction-vote

The article concludes that safeguards have been established and they give electoral procedures added strength, but it also points out that Maga is planning better this time around. Trump is also more powerful than four years ago, imo. He has moved into the realm of cult leader now. I imagine a loss will produce from him more than a rambling 'march on the capitol' speech. He'll call for civil war, or something equally unhinged. Crackpot America.
Cautiously optimistic here, the Harris/Walz lead grows a little bit every day, if it keep this up they will be well ahead by the election, but always remember back to the 2016, no-one expected Trump to win then, those US'ians need to get out and vote, and with luck the numbers will be so high no amount of elector suppression will be able to get the Trump anywhere near winning. Harris is now more popular, and less unpopular, than Trump.

As for civil unrest, remember the adults are in charge now, if they were in charge back on Jan 6th that would never have happened, they would have faced a solid wall of National Guard and wouldn't have got near the Capitol building! His power has grown among the cult, that's true, but the cult is actually smaller than we think, and older, and less fit, and less reliable. Only the maddest of the mad will actually take to arms, I don't think it will be to bad. As for civil war, I don't expect it will come to that, the Repub "leaders" pushing the civil war part are really the dregs of the party, they simply won't get the backing. Civil unrest in some areas, maybe, civil war no.

Time to confiscate his passport;
Trump, convicted in May of 34 felony charges in New York state, also faces a federal felony election subversion trial that will likely only take place if he loses to Vice President Kamala Harris in November. During a streaming audio conversation with tech billionaire Elon Musk on Monday, Trump hinted that he might flee to Venezuela "if something happens with this election."
He means, if he loses lol!

Trump gave a speech on his economic plans for after he gets elected....it boiled down to...."I get elected stock market goes up, Kamala gets elected stock market goes down."

Plus rambling about pictures on times magazine etc, this was his "intellectual" speech by the way, meant for the smart people!

Trump at it as usual. Apparently more than 100% of the new job creations under Biden went to immigrants. Much more than 100% he's heard, numbers above 100% you wouldn't believe!

Everybody is going to be thrown into a communist system where everybody gets healthcare, hang on which side is he representing again? Promising everyone a good time of Harris gets elected? Seems he is on the wrong side!

People bringing calculators with them to rob stores to see how much they have robbed, lol!

In the words of Rex Tillerson (his Secretary of State), or was it John Bolton (his National Security Advisor), he's a "fucking moron", and I don't understand how anyone with a functioning brain can't see that! 😉

Would that be the Schrödinger immigrants who simultaneously take jobs from native-born Americans AND live off welfare benefits? 😉

When he won in 2016 I was flabbergasted. Even though he lost the popular vote, and even though the system is flawed because of things like non-compulsory voting, the fact that tens of millions of people support him is like a fatal tumour eating away at the country. I think it's all over for America. I've said this sort of thing before but I'm still shocked all over again at how bad it is when shit like this goes down nearly every day.

I know Trump supporters personally, and their politics is just like Dutton's....it's the politics of cruelty, of power worship. They imagine themselves as powerful people and Trump is their representative (even though of course Trump doesn't give a flying fuck about anyone). As for the masses in the US, it seems perfectly clear that 45 years of hyper-neoliberalism have left millions of working class white people on the edge of economic survival. Murdoch and his ilk are happy to blame minorities and immigrants and asylum seekers and whoever else, but never capitalism. The same is true to a lesser extent of all corporate owned media. And then chuck in youtube, podcasts, grifters like Jordan Peterson and Joe Rogan, and all of them, media and neo-fascist intellectuals are telling everyone that only Trump will save them, they're hearing it everywhere and through all their sources of information and all their friends and all their family - it just can't be wrong!

I find Trump's support base perfectly understandable. How can you be told you live in the best most prosperous country in the world and yet find yourself working a sixty hour week and still not be able to cover the cost of living, let alone go to a doctor. It is tragic. It's tragic for Trump's mass supporter base and the tragedy for them is that they have been fed total bullshit and don't have the education, or the time, to realise it, because Trump of course will make their prospects even worse than they are now. I have some sympathy for them. However, I have nothing but contempt for the cruelty crowd that follow Trump and as for the grifters and corporate enablers, they need pitchforks roughly inserted.

That my 2cents worth tonight.

Something piqued my curiosity this week and I was perusing statistics on global wealth. For median wealth per adult, Iceland is the richest on$US 413,193, Australia is number 4 on $US 247,453. The USA is number 15, on $US107,739.

By total national wealth the list I saw put the US at number one on $US 139,866 billion, owning 30.8% of everything in the world.

The inequality list is harder to work out, but you can tell from the above, the USA is obviously a land of leeches like the orange clown, who seems to view inequality as some sort of virtue.
