Re: USA Far Right Watch
Yesterday I watched "God and Country" (available on SBS on Demand), about Christian Nationalism in the USA - very disturbing!

Re: Old Gear
I've never had anything but Linux on my home computers. I was relatively late getting my first home computer (2005), and was fortunate enough to go to a shop whose manager was more than happy to sell me a Windows-free desktop computer and install Linux for me. Nowadays I use a Raspberry pi, and ...
Re: UK Watch
I was in the UK in earlier this year when the Tories did so badly in the local elections. Immediately afterwards 2 MPs defected to Labour, and many others declared that they would not stand as candidates in the next election. The Tories will almost certainly lose many seats to Labour, and maybe some ...

Re: Dumb mobile phones
I've finally got a mobile phone and activated it. In the end I settled for an Opel Lite 4G and PAYG from Aldimobile. The phone has far more features than I need - e.g. I'm not going to listen to FM radio on the phone, when my pocket radio (same size as this phone, and much smaller than a smart phone ...

Re: How Long Do You Keep A Car?
I've owned 6 cars in just under 38 years, which included a gap of 3 years when I had a company car.
If I hadn't migrated to Australia it would only be 5 cars - I sold a car which I'd only owned for 2 years at that time

Dumb mobile phones
I don't want a smart phone, but I have reluctantly decided it is time for me to get a moblle phone. The main reason is to receive codes from banks and other organisations who think this is the best/only method of two-factor authentication. I only expect to make outgoing calls in an emergency (e.g ...

Introduction from nutmeg
I've been an atheist almost all my life. My parents were not churchgoers, although they would have described themselves as Christian (Church of England for my mother, probably Methodist for my father). So my first active contact with religion was when I started school. (In UK schools the day started ...

Re: Quakes and Tremors
I presume it was this that woke me yesterday morning. It started as a distinct "thump", apparently on the roof, but probably that was just how my dreaming brain interpreted it. This was followed by definite shaking of the house. The birds outside were obviously disturbed as well. I'm well over 300 ...
