The media industry really has a habit of "casting for character" people with complex histories and problems and doing very little to help them. A perpetual tragedy.

Rodriguez. His Cold Fact album was re-released in the early 80s, I think he toured here as well, I didn't see him but all us punky electro types loved the record, we put it on college radio next to New Order and PiL. Sugar Man and I Wonder are the big hits, but he has a few other songs that are just as good. I had a South African colleague who told me the events described in the documentary about him were exactly her experience: if you were hip you had the album, and everyone thought he was dead.

Gratitude to Professor McLaws, and sympathies to her family and friends.

Professor Mary-Louise McLaws, the epidemiologist who guided Australians through the Covid-19 pandemic, has died at the age of 70 from brain cancer.

McLaws died in her sleep on Saturday night, her husband Richard Flook said in a statement to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Thanks and goodbye, Shane MacGowan.

Singer-songwriter and The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan has died aged 65, following ill-health and a recent hospital stay after being diagnosed with encephalitis.

The musician, whose hits include 1987's Fairytale of New York and A Pair of Brown Eyes, had been unwell for some time.
