What are we doing even talking to this guy? We have an agreement? Nope you gotta pay extra money! And you have to do what we say whether you agree with it or not.

But Australia is now facing the prospect of a Trump administration review demanding it pay more for submarines under the $368 billion AUKUS pact and a guarantee the boats support the US in a conflict over Taiwan.

No come on, this is just going to get into the territory of sunk cost fallacy before you know it. They'll want $50m extra now, next year they will hit us up for another $100m, then it'll be $300m, and you know who is going to be pocketing those extra hundreds of millions?

The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that big changes are expected as a result of the US review into the deal brokered by former leaders Joe Biden, Scott Morrison and Boris Johnson.

About time the world learned, there is no deal with this man, there is no agreement he won't break if he thinks he can sting you for more money. Just a flat no guys, and if he cancels it and keeps the money that's a lesson well learned, never make a deal with this man, he is a liar, a cheater, and will not honour any agreement you make with him now or in the future! If you agree to a deal now to save AUKUS he will break it in 6 months or so, there is no AUKUS agreement or treaty now, it has been abandoned by Trump in favour of gouging us for more money. Did the AUKUS agreement commit us to following the US into a war against China over Taiwan? No? Then that agreement is now void due this change, it's a clear breach of the agreement. You can't make an agreement then come back a year or two later and set new terms unilaterally!

Further to my previous post I have seen a number of videos where members of the Trump Admin refer to AUKUS as a "policy," no it isn't a fucking policy, it's a fucking strategic agreement, written on paper and signed by various heads of state, it's not a fucking policy. See this is where it all goes wrong, a policy is a just an idea based on the current thinking and ideology of the current administration, this might guide you in making and signing agreements, but once that agreement is signed it's not subject to change by one party, they all have to agree! Once you change that agreement without the other parties consent then the agreement is broken. You, the US admin, are threatening to break that agreement, fuck them!

AUKUS with Biden was already terrible. With Trump and his clowns wanting - no, lusting, that's the word - to make it even worse, it's imperative that Australia withdraw fully. I don't really care abut submarines, let's buy some nice sailing ships instead.

On tariffs, I think a policy of polite, diplomatic detachment might be a good tactic. "Yes Donald, whatever you say Donald, we'd prefer no tariffs at all, but let us know what you settle on once you have worked it all out". Even if it "hurts" Australia, it will hurt America more and it will not last very long.

In today's random developments, the 10% baseline tariff might now be 15 or 20. Canada is getting 35%, Brazil 50%, pharmaceuticals 200%. Canada, remember, was part of USMCA, which Trump initiated because he hated NAFTA. But his first term "deals" are all forgotten now. What's the point in trying to negotiate anything if the US is so nonchalant about its own decisions?

Yeah I have been reading a bit on some Australian news sites, apparently to many politicians of both sides of politics we have one of the best agreements in the world with "only" 10% tariffs (well ok 200% on pharmaceuticals, 50% on copper, steel and aluminium and...) and we should be grateful for that, even though the US was in surplus with us and according to the Trump way of thinking we should be tariffing them, but then we aren't stupid and know tariffs are generally a bad idea!

Oh yes Albo is also bad according to the Libs because he hasn't had a personal meeting with Trump yet and that may be hampering our chances of getting a better deal....forgetting of course he had one all lined up and Trump just walked away from it. You can't make someone else have a meeting with you, you can make arrangements, set dinner dates, do whatever you want, but if the other person just refuses to show up wtf are you going to do?

I also think that AUKUS was a bad idea, but at least with a sensible administration in the US it would have been honoured, with Trump and his administration it is a catastrophically bad idea, we are screwed but all our politicians seem to enjoy the experience and just keep going back for more of the same!
