And more, Pensylvania;

Pennsylvania supreme Court election: Democrat, enough votes are in that it can't be contested.

Pennsylvania superior Court election: 2 Democrat's, no Republicans, again can't be contested now.

Pennsylvania commonwealth Court election: Democrat, can't be contested now.

Pennsylvania Philadelphia mayor, Democrat with 74% and 93% of votes counted.

Philadelphia district councils: 11 seats to be contested, Democrats win 10 seats, Republicans 1.

Philadelphia council at large: 5 Dem, 1 appear to be third party in results so far.

Those last ones are a little bit hard to interpret but it looks like a Dem landslide all around!

Well no surprise there, the Ohio Republican party are taking steps to ensure the recent vote to amend the Ohio constitution to project abortion right will fail by stripping judges and the Supreme Court of the ability to interpret the constitutional amendment.
To prevent mischief by pro-abortion courts, Ohio legislators will consider removing jurisdiction from the judiciary over this ambiguous ballot initiative,” the lawmakers said. “The Ohio legislature alone will consider what, if any, modifications to make to existing laws based on public hearings and input from legal experts on both sides.”

Issue 1 passed Tuesday with 57 percent of the vote. It creates a constitutional right to reproductive freedom in the state, which protects decisions on contraception, fertility treatment, continuing a pregnancy, miscarriage care and abortion up to the point of fetal viability.

It allows the state to prohibit abortion after fetal viability, which is generally between 22 and 24 weeks into pregnancy, except when necessary to protect the life or health of the mother.

But Republicans in the General Assembly have vowed to fight the measure.
Hmm, I don't see this going well for the Ohio Republican party, I mean even some Republican's who voted against the amendment must now be having doubts, I mean if they can do this to the abortion amendment, well they can do it to any right in the Ohio constitution, right?

Nonetheless they are determined;
In a separate statement, Senate President Matt Huffman (R) said the measure’s passage was “just the beginning of a revolving door of ballot campaigns to repeal or replace Issue 1.”

Hang on, we're not finished yet today, and if possible it gets even worse, how you say?

There's a government shutdown looming in the US, the Republican's have put forward a spending bill to prevent the shutdown that will happen in, hold on, about a week. One of the provisions in the bill is that it will be made legal for businesses to fire employees who are taking the birth control pill. Yes you read that correctly, the Republican's want people to be able to be fired from their job if they are using contraception, no religious test of the company or business, just fired....let that sink in and think how much worse it can get! Now imagine you have 7 days, not all of which will be used, to debate and negotiate this bill to prevent the shutdown!

On Issue 2 in Ohio, legalise marijuana for personal use, the governor has said they are going to implement Issue 2 the "Ohio way", I can only interpret that to mean they are going to put as many roadblocks in the way as conceivably possible!

Even when the majority of the population vote on amendments to the constitution the Republican's still won't do what the people want, apparently it's suddenly become, "we will represent all people on both sides, those for and against," which is really funny because that didn't appear to be the case before the constitutional amendments were passed. It was, Marijuana use illegal regardless of whether you agree with us or not, and abortion is illegal regardless of whether you agree with us or not, but now things aren't going their way they are suddenly for everybody, they are arseholes, the lot of them!

The far right conservative christian leader of the house has no bank accounts according to his financial disclosures, it's a bit weird;

I mean even if it was a non-interest bearing account with some christian connection why not just say this? What harm could it do to tell people he has accounts that are not required to be declared and leave it at the instead of evading the question entirely?

Edit, he later clarified in a statement released following the interview that he does indeed have a zero interest bearing check account that doesn't need to be reported, but why not simply state that during the interview, I am guessing after watching it he knew it looked a bit....shall we say dodgy, that he avoided answering the question at all.

GOP contender for city council position arrested hours before election!
A candidate for a Texas city council seat has been charged with two counts of child pornography -- and he was arrested just hours before the election, Newsweek reported.

Brad Benson, who was running for Place #4 on the Granbury City Council, was arrested on Nov. 6. The Republican Party of Hood County withdrew its support for him shortly after.

And surprise he still got 26.69% of the vote, forcing the candidates into a runoff election that wouldn't have happened if no-one voted for him.

Looking around I stumbled across a raft of Texas constitutional amendments that were passed recently, an interesting read. One of the amendments, the only one that failed to pass, was an amendment to raise the mandatory retirement age for judges from 75 to 79, I can only see that amendment as an attempt to keep judges in place that the government wanted rather than having elections and maybe getting more liberal judges in.

Scary shit! Secret, all-powerful, and unaccountable fash quasi-police force.

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1708 ... 61818.html
1. Buried in North Carolina's 600+ page budget is a little-noticed provision that creates a secret police force, controlled by Republicans, with extraordinary powers

🧵
2. The budget grants the Gov Ops Committee the right to seize “any document or system of record” from anyone who works in or w/state & local government

This includes contractors or any entity that directly or indirectly receives state funds, including charities and colleges
3. It gets worse. Gov Ops staff will be authorized to enter “any building or facility” owned or leased by a state or non-state entity without a judicial warrant.

This includes private homes, if it includes a home office of a contractor.

4. Alarmingly, public employees under investigation will be required to keep all communication and requests “confidential.” They cannot alert their supervisor of the investigation nor consult with legal counsel.

Those who refuse to cooperate face jail time and fines of up to 1K
5. Gov Ops is dominated by Republicans and pursues partisan investigations. It is co-chaired by Senate Leader Phil Berger (R) and House Speaker Tim Moore (R).

Gov Ops launched an inquiry into diversity training programs at the University of North Carolina earlier this year.
6. Berger and Moore claim this is all about oversight and transparency. But a separate provision of the budget allows them to reject any public records requests concerning the operation of Gov Ops.
