Looking very serious. I heard some official say that they are worried about any houses built prior to 1980. Well, in greater Brisbane down to northern NSW there are lots and lots and lots of those glorious old queenslander style homes, so that's a worry.
And Lismore! It's going to be hit again...people are still homeless there from the last flood. Fucking hell!
Toon town should be ok but take care everyone who's in it!
Cyclone Alfred
Cyclone Alfred
First they came for the 'illegal' immigrants...and i did not speak out because i was not an illegal immigrant.
Then they came for...
Re: Cyclone Alfred
It's now heading straight at us, just south of Brissy. I think we are prepared as much as we can be. All the disaster stuff is gone from the shops anyway, so if you don't have it now you're shit outta luck.
Re: Cyclone Alfred
Good luck Wolty!

Cheers mate, fingers crossed. We live in a townhouse complex and it's all pretty solid. One biggish window at the front but it's a bit sheltered by shrubs. Food for a week. Candles, lighters and we have town gas and a portable gas stove. Biggest issue is if the power is off for an extended period of time.
I can see some big palm leaves in the front garden of our complex that I'll get rid of today. Bloody gardeners.....

Re: Cyclone Alfred
I'm up at Black Mountain (behind Cooroy - inland from Noosa). I've just about got everything (by which I mean, that which I can carry or drag or get onto the trolley) put away (by which I mean either put in the shed or the garage or laid over in sheltered place in the garden).
[Though some of the more difficult/heavy/awkward things I've attempted to tie down. If only I'd done a rigging knots course]
It's been gusty/windy but sunny all day.
Fingers crossed.

Good luck to all in the firing line. I can't help feeling a little surge of anticipation, excitement even, in the lead-up to these things. "Her beauty and her terror", that's the vibe.
This webcam at Coolangatta is a good one. No sign of strong wind now, but the surf looks dramatic.

Edit: 1737 AEDT, 3 surfers there now, giving a good idea of the scale.

Re: Cyclone Alfred
Three cheers for the BOM! I read that the slowness of the cyclone could be a concern once it hits land, but it does provide extra prep time. Everything i'm reading about community preparation is really inspiring, even volunteers from different political parties working side by side, it's just great. We'll never know how many lives will be saved thanks to the bom - and everyone understanding reality.
Imagine if we had a president PM that gutted NOAA the bom of it's workforce, it's property leases, it's equipment! Imagine if no one knew a cyclone was about to make land in Miami Brisbane?

It's freakin pissing down here. I'm guessing Brisbane will go under water.
Our house in Hervey Bay that the step-daughter lives in has water 3 or 4 inches deep downstairs and upstairs the roof is leaking.
And as she just said,

I'm not going fucking downstairs again!! There's fucking snakes everywhere!
