There is no way in hell that I'd ever own a vehicle that doesn't have a steering wheel that is mechanically coupled to steering the wheels. Call me old fashioned but this is not an area that needs reinventing. Most other "by wire" systems I'm ok with but not this one.

The thing with most "fly by wire" setup is that there are usually multiple backups and redundancies in place in case anything goes wrong, just have a look at the backup systems used in aircraft "fly by wire" setups. The problem with the Elon Musk "drive by wire" setup is that there are almost certainly no backups so if it fails at 110kph the next corner is going to kill you! There's nothing inherently wrong with control by wire, but there's a lot wrong with letting idiots apply to areas it should never be used.

Lexus also uses "steer by wire," on their promotional page;
Lexus assured us the steering system has a complete backup with a redundant controller and CAN bus wiring, but it was the company's legendary reliability that set us at ease.
I wonder what backups cybertruck has for it's system? This is what we get from Tesla;
Tesla may do that as well, but because the company provides no technical information to the press or access to the company’s engineers, we don’t know.
So no-one outside of Tesla itself actually knows whether or not they have backups in place for steer by wire! That's comforting......or not as the case may be.

I have ill-feelin'
For that chap Elon -
He's unappealin'.

Elon Musk’s social media app X has been placing advertisements in the search results for at least 20 hashtags used to promote racist and antisemitic extremism, including #whitepower, according to a review of the platform.

NBC News found the advertisements by searching various hashtags used to promote racism and antisemitism, and by browsing X accounts that often post racial or religious hatred. The hashtags vary from obvious slogans such as #whitepride and #unitethewhite to more fringe and coded words such as #groyper (a movement of online white nationalists) and #kalergi (a debunked theory alleging a conspiracy to eliminate white people from Europe).

While the hashtags make up a small percentage of what is posted daily on X, they add to previous examples showing how the platform has struggled to maintain control of its ad network and how it intersects with hate speech — an issue that has plagued the platform for years. The placements allow X to monetize extremist content more than 18 months after Musk said that he would demonetize hate posts on the platform he owns.

Apparently if you search for or click #Trump2024 on xitter at the moment it triggers an animation of American flags drifting down like snow.

I never use the site and I don't have an account, so I was unaware that advertisers can pay for this sort of thing to be thrust into the eyeballs of its victims users. The question is whether Musk has given this as a freebie to Trump. There are also various unconfirmed reports of pro-Democrat content being suppressed.

What is he up to now? Well apparently.....now let me get this right because it's a hard one to figure out logic wise.....he is suing companies that don't advertise on X-twitter. Yes you got that right, suing for not advertising on his platform, I mean it's a win/win right, if they advertise he gets money, if they don't advertise he gets money!

As much as I hate Musk a lot of the headlines are very misleading (though what's new really).

He isn't suing companies for not advertising on X, he is suing "Global Alliance for Responsible Media" and a bunch of it's member organisations for coordinating a boycott and using their market dominance to encourage other companies not to advertise on X which saw X launch an antitrust case. Google is also being sued by Rumble for the same reason under the same antitrust laws..
Under the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, it is illegal to boycott if the boycott is engaged to intimate, coerce, or threaten an employee or to stop a company from conducting business. One example of an illegal boycott occurs when two or more companies agree not to engage in business with another individual or company.
https://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/ ... -laws.html

I don't know if they will win, I think probably not, though I guess it depends on what communication between said companies (did they coordinate a multi company boycott) comes to light.. If they all just individually said "nah, fuck you bigots" to X it would be fine, the case is about the coordination (which breaches anti trust laws).

Paying out EU550,000 for unfair dismissal;
Twitter has been ordered to pay over €550,000 compensation to a former senior executive in its Irish-based operations in what is a record award by the Workplace Relations Commission for an unfair dismissal case.
The WRC heard that the social media giant - now known as X - decided that the employee had resigned when he failed to tick a box requiring him to agree to new unspecified pay and conditions within a one-day deadline in response to an e-mail from the company's new owner Elon Musk in November 2022.
In addition, Mr Cush pointed out that his client’s contract of employment stated that a resignation must be given in writing.
Clear breach of contract, isn't it a pain when other countries actually have and enforce labour laws!
