Calendar of Songs

Post by Irrev-Black »

The SM'Erald's Column 8 informs me tomorrow is Billie Joe McAlister day.

Was the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day
I was out choppin' cotton, and my brother was balin' hay
And at dinner time we stopped and walked back to the house to eat
And Mama hollered out the back door, "Y'all, remember to wipe your feet!"
And then she said, "I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge
Today, Billie Joe MacAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge"
I was always singing about July 29...

Anybody else got a favourite musical date?

"A line from her letter, May 24".

Great to be reminded of this song, one of the best from the "oboe" period.

A song riddled with youthful male entitlement, and footage of the place where I spent some of my youthful, male, entitled years...

Cheating a real bit, it's on or around May 29th.

I never got over my teenage love affair with BOC. This oldies reunion excerpt shows Buck Dharma somehow survived having his moustache, chest hair and white jump suit amputated. Alan Lanier, side man who was normally there for brief lead guitar duet phrases, gets a big solo slot of his own for once, before rock god Buck comes back in again and takes back his heavenly throne. They sort of turn it into "Astronomy", which is pretty close to "Stairway to Heaven" too, but it doesn't matter when you are squinting and headbanging and doing air guitar as you listen.
