Well as far as I understand it if you use duckduckgo then you use bing.. DDG just uses the bing API to serve us search results, though the way they implement it is better than bing IMHO, as not tracked and they can tune/refine/rank the responses differently to bing, but yeah they (and by extension us as ddg users) are 100% still using bing's search engine.

This post triggered a rant about being a social refusenik.

I have now deleted all my accounts, but even before that I never had the stomach for Instagram.

Not having accounts is interesting. Occasionally there will be a link to something or other and I am banned from seeing it without an account. This includes things like NSW police issuing missing persons alerts, or announcements about weather cancellations for the local markets, made on facebook and/or xitter. I have relatives who don't know how to share photos except via enshittified social media.

Former colleagues now don't know how to get in touch with me, although I communicated my fediverse contacts before I "went dark" (perhaps the phrase should be disinfected my digital life, washing off all the shit). People actually refuse to use the the non-shit versions. They won't even look at public posts there, none of which require an account, unlike the facebook equivalent. But I'm the one that feels weird. Normally I like being the weirdo, but I would prefer it if the mainstream people would not immerse themselves in shit and smear it around the world.

A couple of other relatives have actually been very successful at monetising their social channels. I don't know the exact figure, but I think they get a decent bit of coin out of it as a side hustle. I wonder about the personal cost of doing that because so many people in that position have to market themselves, and it becomes all-consuming. Every minute of every day you need to have the camera ready to capture that moment and frame it in a way which will engage your subscribers.
