On the DNC’s side, they need to prepare a plan to move towards alternatives.
The sooner the better, from my distant perspective.

If his age and competence are not a problem as the Democrats claim, they should stop acting as if it is. It's like they are hiding something. He needs to be everywhere, doing interviews, giving press conferences, doing live events. Show us you have nothing to hide. His 2020 campaign was carefully managed, it started with that heavily produced video focusing on the Trump and the far right. It's a different battle now, incumbency is a poison chalice, he needs to change tactics.

yes, but his age and competence are clearly a problem and there are more than enough examples of it being so. It's incredible that the DNC couldn't see this coming. My suspicion is that they assumed the courts would deal with Trump and all they had to do was wheel joe to the podium and pour another cocktail. Entitled fools.

And i'm skeptical of the line about the party not having any actual power to dislodge an incumbent given what they did to Sanders, especially in 2016. But as everyday passes, the situation becomes more desperate. This election cannot be lost. In the past, a dud candidate just meant a 4 year wait. A dud candidate in 2024 could mean game over.

This apocalyptical scenario is too horrifying to contemplate. And it is the fault of the Democrats every bit as much as the Republican nutbags. Why is the cupboard so bare of viable, stable, non-loony, non-geriatric candidates?

If Joe runs he MUST win, (as I read recently from a Republican voter “I love democracy too much that if it was a Biden and Trump race, I’d still vote for Biden even if he was dead. And I’m a Republican.”)

Is that Gavin Newsom in the wings?

Having watched a few videos in right wing media where it's claimed Biden is confused and dazed, well it seems a bit exaggerated, while at the same time they ignore Trump's at times far worse behaviour, for instance when he shoved the President of Montenegro aside at the UN, I mean compare the two!

https://www.news.com.au/finance/work/le ... e77e9f9b7c

The claims in the news.com report are highly exaggerated and biased, but at least Biden didn't just shove the President of Jordan to one side, I mean you can see Trumps absolute disdain in his face as he manhandles another world leader, it's clear he considers everyone else as lesser people to be pushed aside.

Also when he barged in front of the queen, you can see he clearly has no idea where he is supposed to be even though everything would have been explained to him beforehand.

While they are both old, it's clear the behavior of each of them is treated far differently by the media for essentially the same faux pa's, but at least Biden is cognisant enough to recognise he has made a faux pa, whereas Trump in both of those incident had no idea what he was doing and that it wasn't supposed to be done that way.

They are both to old to be President, but it's to late to change either of them really for either party, but I can't imagine the tumult if one or even both of them have issues before the election and have to drop out! That's unimaginable, the Dem's have fallen into the same trap as the Republican's, they have no backup!

I don't think Trump is a worse candidate than Biden because his acuity is just as questionable as Biden's. Trump is a worse candidate because he's a fascist. It is unfair that all the media, even the anti-Trump leaning mainstream media, highlight Biden's cognitive mishaps whereas Trump's cognitive mishaps are largely ignored, but Trump's cognitive mishaps are the least of his problems. The man is planning concentration camps, ffs. So they are not judged by the same standards, and yes that is unfair, but it was always going to be this way, it was completely predictable.

I remember being accused of ageism on the old forum when i argued against Biden running in 2024, at least 12 months ago. But here we are. I don't think the Democrats know how to do politics in the current environment, which is shocking.

But Biden could still win! He'll 100% win the popular vote. We'll have dodged a bullet if he does win and hopefully the DNC will have learned something, i doubt it though. And really, Biden needs to win in something close to a landslide otherwise it might be January 6 forever. (But that would still be preferable to Trump winning).

Biden's State of the Union speech i snow available, and it's being attacked by all right wing Republicans everywhere they can, so it appears to be a success, so much so that some Republican strategists are actually saying that it was very successful, Trump is going mad on social media, as expected and the Republican response delivered by on of their up and coming stars has been widely derided as "Stepford Wives" like, and shot in kitchen of all places. Why a kitchen, who knows, but I suspect they thought it would appeal to the American woman because, of course, they spend most of their lives in the kitchen like good little conservative women should!.....I can't help thinking their choice of venue may have been a mistake, it's been called, among other things "creepy" and "career ending" it was that bad!

You have to wonder why they chose a relatively unknown "rising star" of the party to do this rebuttal, you would think one of the party leaders would do it, or one of the big and well known names like MTG, truth is they all knew this was poison from the start. MTG already humiliated herself during the speech, and none of the leaders wanted to take the fall, they just coerced this unknown into doing it, basically a scapegoat they can just throw away, but I mean so many of these people fall into this category, Trump does it all the time with lawyers.

I get the feeling they really felt a thick and naive yet ridiculously overcoached young woman in a kitchen was the perfect vehicle to counter Biden.

I am a bit surprised they didn't have her make her man a sammich while she did the speech. Opportunity lost.
