I'd call it a Samsung Suppository and tell them they can stick it up their arse, but they're probably already working on that as a product.

I'll wait for my dumb car. Prolly a pedal trike.
https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/world/ ... 5f8z0.htmlWashington: Fears that China is using smart cars to spy on American drivers and infrastructure has prompted President Joe Biden to launch an unprecedented probe into the potential security risks to the US auto sector.
Warning that Chinese car makers were seeking to flood the market with high-tech vehicles that could gather sensitive information for Beijing, Biden has ordered his commerce department to investigate the dangers of foreign-made software, which could lead to restrictions on the use of certain vehicles or components.

Re: Surveillance and Tracking Matters
They could just bring through GDPR like laws to actually protect their population and then it isn't picking on one countries products, because it isn't like plenty of American companies also engage in all sorts of inappropriate surveillance (along with the government).Irrev-Black wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 2:39 pm I'll wait for my dumb car. Of course they won't as what they want is not to protect their citizens from inappropriate sensitive data collection, I propose what they really want is just a monopoly on infringing their citizens privacy (PRISM)...
On that topic I am rather miffed at the lack of progress on Privacy protection laws in Australia (like the EU GPDR), we had a bunch of consultations and drafts then silence?

AirBnB was on my list of things to avoid like the plague, even before it even occurred to me that this sort of thing was possible.

Re: Surveillance and Tracking Matters
This morning's reading was about the car industry getting into surveillance capitalism in a big way. I hope to be able to modify any car I own to disable its surveillance features. If I can't do that to my satisfaction, I won't own that car. The suggestion in this article is that some Toyotas actually have a sim card of their own... or maybe it is done through the app. So you disconnect the app or remove the sim card. It would also be good to learn how to initialise the car's storage, so your data can't be retrieved when the car is serviced.
