Religious Abusers of Children

Post by Irrev-Black »

Let's start with Malka Leifer.
Former Melbourne school principal Malka Leifer has been sentenced to 15 years' prison for sexually abusing two students in her care.

Leifer was today sentenced in the Victorian County Court for 18 sexual offences, dating back two decades to her time in charge of the Adass Israel School in Melbourne.

Three sisters — Nicole Meyer, Elly Sapper and Dassi Erlich — came forward to accuse Leifer of abusing her position of authority to sexually abuse them between 2003 and 2007.

The sisters claimed the 56-year-old isolated and sexually abused them on campus, at school camps and in her home.

In April, a County Court jury found Leifer guilty of abusing Ms Sapper and Ms Erlich but cleared the once-revered community leader of charges relating to Ms Meyer.

Judge Mark Gamble set a non-parole period of 11 years and six months at the conclusion of a three-hour sentencing.

He described the offending as extended, insidious and predatory, and targeted at "two very vulnerable victims".
Still, as I see it, there are unresolved matters, like the identification and prosecution of those who got Leifer out of the country and into Israel so fast.

In short, PopeCo says priests are servants, not employees.

Says Mad Fuckin' Witches on birdsite (quoted as well because birdsite has been known to "lose" things):
@MFWitches
How in the FUCK do we live in a country where the Catholic Church says they’re not responsible for clergy child sexual abuse because their priests “aren’t employees”, yet the same Churches gleefully accepted #Jobkeeper payments for these same fucking priests?

Revival Centres in Oz: there's some involvement with them in my family history, and for my money they're bloody near cultish.

Now a legal firm is seeking information about possible child abuse in one of the sect's branches.

Perhaps the Vatican can pass Popey's hat round, or the church can flog off a few dozen plum properties?

A win for victims in the Oz High Court.

Technical/legal arguments of Catholic Church in the High Court re: vicarious liability for sexual abuse cases after the abuser has died, has failed, narrowly. The Church may now have to pay up to 1% of its annual tax-exempt $23B income to abuse survivors. Prayer fails again.

Great result. Hands up if you're a catholic and are disappointed by this outcome, those with their hands up need to recalibrate their ethical universe because this is fantastic news for those who have been traumatised and abused by the RCC.

Latter Day Stains on the sect's character.
Mormon leaders are 'covering up' an 'epidemic' of sexual abuse that rivals scandals exposed within the Catholic church, victims have alleged to DailyMail.com.

The Utah-based religion has repeatedly protected perpetrators and punished those who speak out in a bid to protect its reputation 'at all costs', it is claimed.

Victims believe abuse is 'rampant', with Mormon families said to be suffering 'extremely high rates of incest'.

Young girls subjected to horrific abuse say they are told to 'forgive' their assailants and discouraged from reporting it to the police.

The Mormon church has been embroiled in several high profile cases in which it has been accused of covering up sexual abuse, but the true scale of the crisis has never before been exposed.

Now, DailyMail.com has combed through reams of court documents and police records and interviewed more than a dozen current and former members of the church to expose the full extent of victims' claims.

Their stories span decades of abuse in which ecclesiastical leaders are alleged to have 'maintained a pattern and practice' of hiding crimes from authorities.
