Re: Gadgets

I've inherited an unwanted automatic coffee machine. It is a behemoth. At first I felt threatened by its imposing bulk and Jetsons-like automation, but I've decided to give it a try. It came without a manual and the first thing I discovered was that the flashing light was saying "descale me!&q...

Re: Surveillance and Tracking Matters

I can't work out if there is anything new in this story, but it's a timely reminder that most smartphone users are lambs to the slaughter. Location tracking and the many ways supposedly anonymised data collected by mobile devices have been known about for a long time. The focus of the article is on ...

Re: Donald Trump

Musk gets his billionaire buddies to help finance the Trump campaign. It will provide hundreds of millions of dollars. They say when you vote for someone like Trump, it's the last free election you have. It sounds melodramatic, but thinking about Jan 6, the big lie, the stacked Supreme Court, the lo...

Re: Donald Trump

JD Vance? I actually read his book when it came out. Someone gave it to me as a present, i think. Hillbilly Elergy. It was a little on the conservative side but my feeling memory was that it was very human and empathetic work that highlighted the struggles of poor white rural communities. He's clea...

Re: Donald Trump

I tend to agree, although there is a possibility that Trump's next term will be more like his first go at it, rather than a worst case scenario. Got to remember who he had around him in the first stab at being dictator, he had "the best people" which curiously enough did for the most part...

Re: Donald Trump

I hope I'm wrong about this. I remember thinking in 2020 that it wasn't just a bad year, it was the start of a bad decade . This morning I'm hearing radio commentators saying how well it's going for Trump now. The timing is perfect for him. Biden has been diminished by the age issue. Trump sat back ...

Re: Donald Trump

Agreed entirely, but the funny thing is, these Trump rallies and events are supposed to be entirely gun free as far as I am aware, how did the gun even get into the rally? I just read the shooter was reportedly on a rooftop with an AR15 style of weapon. My limited knowledge of such matters suggests...

Re: Donald Trump

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jul/13/trump-rally-gun-shots-pennsylvania They missed! That's a winning photo. The look on his bloodied face as he shook his fist at the crowd! He will be even worse now. Then the Biden campaign responds appropriately, condemning violence, suspending...

Re: Movies

Once again I am pleasantly surprised that there is still any milk left in the cow called "Planet of the Apes". "Kingdom" was very enjoyable. Nothing beats the 1968 original of course.

Re: Electric + Human-Powered Vehicles

And here we go again. Now to be clear I am not against Hydrogen Fuel Cell cars in principal, but in practicality there are huge problems. Hydrogen is a fizzer so far. Here's an EV site's take on the same subject. https://thedriven.io/2024/07/10/bmw-rolls-out-impressive-fuel-cell-ix5-but-for-hydroge...
